An Actor's Journey

What does it mean to be an actor? How do actors do what they do? How do they deal with the frustrations and rejections? This is the story of my personal experiences in Los Angeles. Along the way I'll share what I've learned.

The Media's Been Good to Me

I received a call last week from a news producer who'd read my blog posting mentioning using a GPS to navigate between auditions. She was putting together a story on the subject and wanted to interview me. That sounded kinda cool so I agreed. A gent from the ABC station here in LA came by on Thursday and asked me some questions on camera about using the system, what I like about it and some specific experiences. He filmed me grabbing my headshots, leaving the house and using my GPS to drive around town and that was it.

Unfortunately, I have no idea when or where it will air. It's a feature-type story that'll be distributed to 70+ stations across the country and run in their newscasts as needed. I'll probably check with a TV news monitoring service that will keep an eye out for this sort of thing for a fee.

On Sunday morning, I called Leo LaPorte, the Tech Guy on KFI 640am in LA for some advice on RSS feeds. Leo's a very affable guy and I listen to his podcasts on a regular basis. I run a few websites and one of them is a pet project called TVSeriesFinale.com. It's a site and podcast devoted to cancellations and the last episodes of television series. Leo was very helpful, even called the site "brilliant," and mentioned the site's address a couple times on the air. Aside from getting some tech advice, I got some nice promotion and received a nice bump in traffic.

Then, yesterday morning, I was checking the stats for the TV Series Finale site and noticed that some visitors were coming from a page on the New York Times site. Kinda strange. I did some checking and found that the site had been mentioned in a Times article about the Ray Liotta series Smith being cancelled. I received lots of visitors from that little mention as well.

Strange that this stuff all happened within the space of a few days but I'm certainly not complaining. The media's been quite good to me lately.

Nice to see you got some good (and free) press and thanks for the link for TVseriesfinale. I've enjoying surfing over there.

Any more updates?
