An Actor's Journey

What does it mean to be an actor? How do actors do what they do? How do they deal with the frustrations and rejections? These are some of my personal experiences in Los Angeles and beyond. Along the way I'll share what I've learned.

The Loser Contestant

Wink Martindale on an Orbitz commercialI just came back from a callback for that Orbitz spot that I auditioned for earlier in the week. There were about ten other guys there for the same role (the husband that loses the mock gameshow and is destined to sleep in an airport terminal). Not as few as I'd like but not too big a number either. At callbacks, it seems like there are more people at the callback than the original audition. Kinda makes the callback seem a wee bit less special.

I wore the same outfit (uptight casual), got there early and was paired up with a nice gal as my wife. We went in and acted out the spot for the agency/client folks. We ran through it three times and got some direction after the first two times. We made adjustments and it seemed to go well. We left and that was it.

It's impossible to guess the outcome on this kinda stuff. But, with all of the commercial competition out there, if you make it to the callback stage, it's hard to feel like a "loser contestant." Not that I'm satisfied or anything...

Update: I just got a call from my agent that the agency wants to put me "on avail." Most likely, I don't have the job but it is positive. It means that they liked me enough to ask me to hold the shoot dates open while they finalize their plans and possibly confirm their first choice actor. Fingers crossed...

Hey Nicholas!
Things are going really well -- just incredibly busy. The plan is to get back into regular/semi-regular posting. Thanks for asking!
