In Again, Out Again, On to the Next
I attended a callback today for the lead role of Mortimer in a production of Arsenic and Old Lace. I got the call to come in a couple days ago. I was surprised to get the call actually because I had figured the show had already been cast by then.
I arrived at the audition about 15 minutes early and briefly chatted with another actor in the waiting area. The Director came in soonafter, talked with the other actor and then chatted with me. He said that he had seen me in a show a couple years ago and was complimentary. That was very nice.
The auditions got under way and the gentleman I'd been talking to went in first. He came out and had been cast as one of the cops. Three other actors and I were up for the Mortimer role. We each read the "body discovery" scene and then read with Aimee who would be playing the ingenue Elaine.
I felt like both my reads went well. I could have done better but was overall pretty satisfied. We four Mortimer-types hung around for a bit afterwards and then were told that "we'll call you." Kind of odd since it was the second callback for everyone but me. Still, the waiting game is all part of it and a good reason to "let auditions go."
So, I put the project out of my head once, put it back in, and now put it out of my head once again. On to the next...
