An Actor's Journey

What does it mean to be an actor? How do actors do what they do? How do they deal with the frustrations and rejections? This is the story of my personal experiences in Los Angeles. Along the way I'll share what I've learned.

Actor Stories: Near Misses

Lee GarlingtonActor/Writer Tim Coyne recently interviewed actor Trey Alexander for the always enjoyable Hollywood Podcast. You may not know Trey's name but chances are, if things had gone differently, you would have recognized his face. Trey was hired to play Jennifer Aniston's boyfriend on Friends during the height of the sitcom's popularity -- but things didn't quite work out as expected. Check out podcast #31 to hear the whole story.

Here's another interesting story of a near miss from actress Lee Garlington (right) who you may know as Toby's lawyer on West Wing, "Brenda Baxworth" on Everwood, and many, many other shows and movies.

"I was signed as the only woman and a series regular on this great new sitcom. It was Jason, Michael, Jerry and me. We did the pilot. However, once the show was picked up, it became Jason, Michael, Jerry and Julia. I didn't mind so much at the time -- it was just another job. But after about five years into the run of Seinfeld, I began to get it."
