A Daughter & Daddy Actor Afternoon
I was planning on driving into LA yesterday to drop off the 350 headshots (250 of mine, 100 of my daughter's) to my agent and the headshot drop-off service. My daughter Grace was booked for an X-Men III promo in the same area so, rather than my wife taking her, we had a daughter/daddy afternoon.
Her call-time was 3:30 so we left with plenty of time to spare -- I'm very experienced in the area of crazy Friday afternoon traffic. The highways were backed up so it was looking like we might just make it in time but then things cleared out. We had a few extra minutes so we were able to pickup two sets of new headshots (that my agent had requested) at the photo lab on LaBrea.
As we got back into the car, my wife Melanie called to tell me that Grace's call had been shifted to 5pm. So, rather that doing our drop-offs later, we did them before her appointment. But first, we formed a mini-assembly line, parked on LaBrea; taping resumes and putting together 50 of the new headshots to give to my agent.
From there, we visited my agent's new office on a secured lot across from the Paramount lot. Though it's a bit of a longer drive, the new location puts them very close to a lot of ongoing TV and film sets. Grace and I couldn't resist taking a walk around the lot and checking out the different production areas (like Commander in Chief) before we left.
Next, we headed west to the On Your Mark casting offices on LaCienega to drop off the 350 headshots. After doing that, I showed Grace the "technique" of making rounds and dropping off our headshots in the different casting director in-boxes. Nothing special really but a part of an acting career that we hadn't shared before.
Our timing worked out perfectly because we arrived right on time for her shoot. It was an interview that was going to be used for a promo for the upcoming X-Men film. The director stood off camera and asked different fans about their favorite characters and themselves as they related to various themes of the movie; if they had ever stood up for a cause, felt like an outsider, etc. It took about a half hour and she did very well. The director told us afterwards that it may end up on MTV, the DVD and the movie's website. He also mentioned that the movie had gone through some reshoots as recently as last week (hmmm, not a good sign...).
We hopped back into the car, stopped for a yogurt cup treat at McDonald's, stopped at Fry's Electronics for a new computer hard drive and made our way through traffic on the drive home. A productive, fun, and unique way to share an afternoon with my little girl.
"A Daddy Day"...my children have always loved those. A little one on one time regardless of the event is always special.
