An Actor's Journey

What does it mean to be an actor? How do actors do what they do? How do they deal with the frustrations and rejections? This is the story of my personal experiences in Los Angeles. Along the way I'll share what I've learned.

Arbitrary & Interesting Facts

This stuff doesn't have much to do with the craft of acting per se but I thought it was all quite interesting just the same.

Actor/director/musician/producer Desi Arnaz (I Love Lucy) went to school with gangster/tax-evader Al Capone.

Actor Leslie Nielson (TV's Police Squad and movies like The Naked Gun, and Airplane) grew up in a small town (population 15) which was 15 miles from the Arctic Circle. His father was a Mountie. He later lived a street away from director Arthur Hiller (Man of La Mancha, Outrageous Fortune and former Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president) and was taught acting by Lorne Greene (TV's Bonanza and Battlestar Galactica) in Toronto who was a very famous radio announcer during World War II.

Actor Alfred Molina (Spiderman 2, Boogie Nights and Broadway's Fiddler on the Roof played the unfortunate guy in the opening of Raiders of the Lost Ark who said 'Throw me the idol, I'll throw you the whip.'

Kelsey Grammer is the first actor in tv history to win three Emmys for playing the same character (Frasier Crane) on three series -- Cheers, Wings (as a guest), and Frasier.

Actress Doris Roberts (TV's Everybody Loves Raymond and Remington Steele) lives in the home formally owned by James Dean.

Actor/comedian Alan Thicke (TV's Growing Pains) has written over 40 tv theme songs including The Facts of Life and Different Strokes.

Director/writer JJ Abrams, creator of TV's Lost and Alias, also created Felicity and wrote the movies Regarding Henry and Armegeddon. He also composed the series themes for Felicity and Alias.

I love useless bits of trivia like this. It's what I fill my brain with! heh.

That blows my mind about Alfred Molina, though. It's one of those "Oh.my.God. You're right!" Fun stuff.
