An Actor's Journey

What does it mean to be an actor? How do actors do what they do? How do they deal with the frustrations and rejections? This is the story of my personal experiences in Los Angeles. Along the way I'll share what I've learned.

"Driving" Directions

As I mentioned a couple weeks back, I've been cast in a production of Paula Vogel's Pulitzer Prize-winning play, How I Learned to Drive. It's a humorous and compassionate piece that tells the story of the complex relationship between an uncle (my role) and a niece and “bravely examines the taboo subject of abuse.” In addition to the Pulitzer, the play was also awarded an OBIE, a Drama Desk Award, a New York Drama Critics' Award, an Outer Critics Award and the Lucille Lortel Award. The original production starred David Morse and Mary-Louise Parker and it's truly an amazing and powerful play.

For those who are interested, the dates for our (brief) run are November 11 – 13, with Friday and Saturday performances at 8pm and the Sunday performance at 2pm. The show will be performed in the Black Box theatre of the beautiful new Vital Express Center for the Performing Arts in Santa Clarita (a stone's throw from Magic Mountain). Tickets are $10 each for adults and $5 for students and seniors (I would leave the kids at home) and can be ordered by calling (661) 362-5304.

I'm mentioning this because I'm told the theatre holds few seats (about 60) and tickets are going extremely quickly. If you would like to see the show, please don't wait!
