An Actor's Journey

What does it mean to be an actor? How do actors do what they do? How do they deal with the frustrations and rejections? This is the story of my personal experiences in Los Angeles. Along the way I'll share what I've learned.

Can You Hear Me Now?

We completed the live-action Calvin and Hobbes piece on Friday afternoon. Strangely, I'm not quite sure how. We were shooting outdoors in a suburban backyard. The backyard looked perfect -- just like you might envision for the yard of a small boy with a big imagination. It looked great and besides fending off the impending sunset, we only had one other "tiny" challenge. The sound.

The house was located near the airport so every minute or two a plane would fly overhead and we would have to wait for the noise to subside. Recording for film picks up everything! And when we didn't have planes, we had to contend with the sounds of screaming children, large trucks, car alarms, a spa, musical ice-cream trucks, horns, barking dogs, motorcycles, and much more. No locusts, trains or sonic booms so I guess it could have been worse…
